Last year, after months in the deep woods of the quarantine, we brought you a Creative Placemaking Summit that opened us all up to a new way of interacting and shed light on the importance of connection--something we were all missing. Now we are beginning to venture out, reclaim the landscape, meet face-to-face and recognize that reconnection is our path to healing, regrowth and revitalization.

what does it mean?
Everything has changed so much over the last year and a half, including how we look at and define things. The intricate wiring of technology allowed us to be together in new ways and proved that we humans are wired for connection. But now as we work to reconnect, we are learning that the transition looks and feels different for us all. The 2021 Creative Placemaking Summit is going to explore all of this. It's going to take a lot of reimagining and creativity, which will be challenging--but also magical and so exciting--and we want to do it together with all of you!

beginning the journey
We are in the process of designing the best experience possible for everyone involved. It will be carefully engineered and feature innovative speakers that will push you to think outside of your comfort zone--which is a good thing. There will also be music, art, celebration and a whole lot more. And...we are spreading it out to TWO half-days to give you more flexibility and to build in some in-person experiences in Downtown Lansing.

Make sure you save the dates for this year's summit. We want everyone there as we reconnect with creativity and ideas for making spaces that everyone loves to be in and around. So check off Oct. 20-21, 2021, and don't book another thing on those days!

Getting started: 

1. To access the event, find the order confirmation you received in your email inbox upon registration. 
2. Click the link labeled “event details,” and it will take you to the event landing page. 
3. You will be able to enter the virtual event hub 30 minutes before the start of the event. 
4. Login to the account you created upon registration if you are not already logged into Accelevents (https://www.accelevents.com/). 
5. When entering the event, you will be prompted to add details to your attendee profile. We encourage you to arrive to the event early so you have time to add profile details and work out any other glitches. You can add as much or as little information as you would like to your profile; it may be helpful during networking and chatting throughout the event. 
6. After creating your profile, click “agenda” to find the sessions you would like to attend.

Accelevents, the virtual event platform, is most compatible with Google Chrome. We encourage you to stop by the “info desk” in the Virtual Event Hub Lobby before attending any sessions and screenshotting or downloading the information offered there. It will outline what to do in case of glitches or web errors, including in the event of a platform crash <spoiler alert: we’ll move to Facebook>, in addition to providing must-know information about the event and navigating the platform.

The Main Stage and Breakout Sessions: 
There are two types of sessions for tomorrow: the main stage and breakout sessions. To access the main stage, click “stage” in the left hand navigation menu. For breakout sessions, choose “session” in the left hand panel, and click to join your preferred session. All sessions are visible with times and speaker information on the agenda page. 

If you would like to attend a certain session, you can click the star next to the register button. It will save the session to your “interests” page and make an easy shortcut in order for you to join when the session begins.

Engagement during sessions: 
You are able and encouraged to interact with speakers, artists and hosts by typing into the chat of each session. Please note that the chat will be viewed by a moderator, who will uphold the “Code of Humanity,” a set of behavioral policies for the event, particularly our chat area. Find the “Code of Humanity” in the Info Desk.

Please note there is a 20-30 second lag between the speaker and what you are seeing on your screen. If they don’t answer or respond to a question immediately, please give them a moment to do so. 

Troubleshooting: 
If you are having technological issues, please visit the info desk in the Virtual Event Hub lobby if you’re able. The info desk is a space intended to serve as your one-stop for all things CPS6. Screen grab or download this information so if we (or you) have any technical difficulties with the platform, internet and more, you have the info you need so you miss out on as little as possible.

If you can’t easily or quickly find a solution to technical glitches, Accelevents has chat tech support available. Visit https://support.accelevents.com/en/ or any Accelevents page and click the chat bubble in the lower right corner.

If you are experiencing streaming issues, you may not be the only one and it could be an issue with the platform. Pop over to the Arts Council’s Facebook and Twitter accounts for status updates on any technical issues or challenges. Chat moderators will update on any speaker streaming or tech issues within the chat of the individual sessions.
