October 10-11, 2024 Creative Placemaking Summit 10
The Arts Council of Greater Lansing’s 2024 Creative Placemaking Summit wasn’t just a conference; it was a celebration ten years in the making. Held October 10–11, this milestone Summit brought together artists, planners, leaders, and curious community members to reflect, reconnect, and reimagine what creative placemaking can be.
From the moment attendees gathered, the tone was clear: this was about participation, not just observation. Through interactive PLAYCE sessions, hands-on workshops, and lively discussions, participants explored how creativity, play, and collaboration shape stronger, more connected communities. Whether diving into the “science of play,” examining arts in commercial development, or hopping on a placemaking bus tour through Lansing’s neighborhoods, there was no shortage of ways to engage.
Day two brought even more inspiration, from a local artist panel highlighting the power of public art to a keynote by global placemaking leader Ethan Kent, who challenged attendees to think bigger about Lansing’s role in the worldwide movement.
Of course, no Summit would be complete without celebration. The Power of Ten Achievement Ceremony honored a decade of impact, while Arts Night Out in Old Town offered a vibrant, real-world reminder of placemaking in action.
At its heart, Summit 10 was about people, ideas, and possibilities. It honored where Lansing has been and invited everyone to imagine where it can go next.
