Welcome Day! Celebrate the completion of the 2020 Arts Impact Project, the Shiawassee Street Mosaic Project, and hear from past and present Arts Impact Project artists. Sip Blue Owl coffee with us under the bridge, and hear from the leaders in some of Lansing’s largest placemaking projects! Speakers include Mayor Andy Schor and a panel of our Arts Impact artists--you won’t want to miss this!

Summit Keynote Redefining Community: The Pandemic's Impact On Our Relationships and Creative Placemaking 2:30 doors open; session 3:00 - 4:45 p.m. Riverwalk Theatre (228 Museum Dr, Lansing) Community has long been built on a sense of belonging - it mattered to belong - but with the COVID-19 pandemic, the definition of community has changed and continues to change. Keynote speaker Ruby Lopez Harper will guide the audience in exploring our relationships to community, the ways that community is being redefined in practice, and what it might mean for the future of the arts, specifically creative placemaking. Norrlyn-Michael Allen
At the age of seven, Norrlyn-Michael Allen became invested in journaling, oratory, and theatre. It was when he participated in his first play at Wiley Elementary School that he recognized his oratorical abilities would lead him to a life of expression. Norrlyn-Michael Allen became thoroughly involved in community programs that developed discipline, emotional intelligence, and cross-cultural communication. Organizations such as Afro-Academic Cultural Technological Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO), Boy Scouts of America, Champaign-Urbana Optimist Club, Don Moyer’s Boys and Girls Club, Banks-Bridges-Lewis Fine Arts Academy (BBL), and Team Trouble (American Youth Basketball Tour) are a few of the organizations which aided his development. In this panel discussion with Opportunity Arts affiliates, young career artists will discuss their experiences in creative placemaking work, best practices for working with artists and what’s next for their cities. Panelists will include visual and performing artists based out of Lansing and Detroit.

Cultivating Concerts and Community: The Ovation *This is a FREE event 5:00 doors open; session 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. Lansing Public Media Center (2500 S Washington Ave, Lansing) Learn the most up-to-date information on The Ovation concert venue, and provide your input on how the space should be used. Make your voice heard! Residents, artists, representatives of arts organizations, stakeholders and more, this is your chance to shape The Ovation programming before shovels hit the dirt and construction begins! Discussion and surveying will be facilitated by Alexis and Dominic, using the platform Poll Everywhere. Free pizza will be included - generously provided by Art’s Pub - and sounds curated by DJ Y’z will set the vibe for the evening. Take Control and Raise the Value of Artists in Your Community! Doors Open: 1:45 p.m Workshop: 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. Q&A and Networking: 3:00 - 3:30 p.m REACH Studio Art Center (1804 S. Washington Ave., Lansing) Grounded in a nationally sourced suite of tools, Artists Thrive helps us see where we are in our work (as an artist or with artists), where we want to go, what is important to measure, and how we can improve in ways that benefit everyone involved. Your Artists Thrive journey begins with a free self-assessment survey that is meant to be customized, adapted, and applied to many situations to support your work. This interactive workshop will be led by Heather Pontonio (Senior Program Director at the Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation and the initiative’s backbone administrator). In a whirlwind 90-minutes you will be grounded in this initiative, explore the self-assessment survey tools, make connections with other participants, and leave with goals for the coming days that support your path to thriving.
